Decadent Prison (Diamond)

He offered her a little shrug, as though she had caught him. “Well, then, perhaps they would still view you as a sympathetic ear within the new regime. One of them, in with us and in a seat of power.” The way her hand moved, how her face seemed to relax marginally, encouraged him. In fact, there was just a touch of pink in her cheeks again; her cleverness seemed to have given her some confidence. He asked, “Are you ready now?” then, hoping to catch her before her mood changed.

Her eyes hardened on him slightly but she looked away and turned forward once more. No, she was not ready and would never be ready but she was feeling somewhat better..knowing that she had outsmarted him at least once. Do I have a choice? Serena said while taking a deep calming breath and rolling her shoulders back and standing up straight. Let's just get this over with so I can get away from you and go back to my room.

Diamond looked away from her, his eyes finding the servant by one alcove as a signal to come forward again, the smile that crept across his face at her reply fading by the time either man reached the massive doors. With just a push by either man, the doors swung open, emitting the pair into the luxuriously decorated ball room, filled with hundreds of prominent people in black-tie attire…

The time had come.
